The Course

Laid out over a century ago, Helen's Bay Golf Course is a beautiful parkland course nestling on a gentle hill at the mouth of Belfast Lough. Combining mature trees planted by the Club's first patron, the Marquis of Dufferin and Ava, with beautifully maintained fairways and small, protected greens the course offers golfers a challenging yet entertaining test of thier game.

Spread over nine-holes the course is bordered by mature woodland, country park and unspoilt beach and combines diverse tee positions to great effect offering a varied and interesting eighteen hole round.

As well as great golf, the course offers stunning views over Belfast Lough to the Antrim Plateau, Irish Sea and Galloway coast. On a clear day Ailsa Craig the rocky island forty six miles away, just off the coast of Scotland at Turnberry, comes clearly into view.

Each hole offers both the high and low handicapper a specific challenge and reward. The 3rd with its century-old woodland (and out-of-bounds) on the right, the 13th with its tough pitch over mature trees or the 5th with its sweeping views over the shore are to name but a few highlights of a round at Helen's Bay.

Although all of the holes have their individual challenges and rewards, the sixth has been described as the "best seaside golf hole in Ulster" and rightly so. Stretching 386 yards from an elevated tee this majestic par four has sweeping views of Helen's Bay and the Lough. The out-of-bounds fence runs the length of the hole to the right and the left combines mature trees and bunkers to punish wayward tee shots. Greenside bunkers narrow the approach and a stiff onshore breeze can challenge even the best of golfers.
